The HERO project, Harsh Environment Rotary Joint, is a strategic project for Meccanotecnica Umbra.
It consists of a series of new product developments. We have identified two main lines, one concerning high-pressure applications and the second referring to high-temperature applications.
Regarding high pressures, we were involved in a project where we had to supply sealing systems, joints, for oil drilling. We therefore had to design not only the sealing system but also all the equipment and the test rig that could simulate the operating conditions. The system must operate at pressures in excess of 500 bar.
For the purpose of product differentiation, we also developed a project that is dedicated to high-temperature applications. In particular, we have developed solutions in renewable energy applications where particularly aggressive fluids are used, which can create difficulties from the point of view of system management.br /> 550°C can be reached on some applications where standard materials that are usually used in the design of mechanical seals fail.
The more easily manageable a plant is, the more it opens up the possibility of a market and industrial use of renewable energy.
